In spite of a budget crisis, we cannot afford to sacrifice quality Public Safety or Medical Services. As a FIRE CAPTAIN / PARAMEDIC and PLANNING SECTIONS CHIEF for a Class 1 city, I will apply my experience and knowledge to become more efficient, maintain a top rated public safety system, and help improve our Medical Services from door steps to hospital beds. QUALITY MEDICAL SERVICE SHOULD NOT STOP AT THE HOSPITAL DOORS! In 2005, I urged local hospitals to expand. I pointed out that every service sector of the valley, except our local hospitals, had expanded to meet the needs of the population. Today, we have a new hospital under construction and an expansion of our existing hospital on the verge of opening. However, QUALITY control is still an issue. ALAN LONG RESTORES QUALITY MEDICAL SERVICES! As a Fire Captain/Paramedic for the City of Anaheim, the Orange County Board of Supervisors appointed me to the QUALITY ASSURANCE BOARD that oversees Emergency Medical Services. The City of Anaheim appointed me to the REGIONAL PARAMEDIC ADVISORY BOARD, EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE COMMITTEE, and the DRUG and EQUIPMENT ADVISORY GROUP. With two ailing hospitals that were struggling with health code violations, I was part of a team that restored Quality Emergency Health Care to the residents of Anaheim and Orange County. Today Anaheim and Orange County deliver top rated medical service. EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE As a Planning Sections Chief for Anaheim’s Emergency Operations Center, I have planned and managed large scale events that aided economic growth. Events such as the MLB WORLD SERIES, NHL STANLEY CUP FINALS, DISNEYLAND EVENTS, WORLD GYMNASTIC FINALS, CONCERTS, and UFC CHAMPIONSHIPS, which have all demanded efficient public safety services. I have been part of a public safety service and city that has earned a class 1 rating and a reputation of being one of California’s top fiscally conservative cities. GIVING BACK I started my fire service career right here in Murrieta. In Elementary school, I remember hearing the siren sound and volunteers rushing to the fire department that was across the street from my school. In High School, I became a volunteer firefighter. I have always been grateful to all those who encouraged and inspired me, during my adolescence. As a Fire Captain for the City of Anaheim, I started the city’s First Fire Explorer program. The program gives High School students interested, in the Fire service career, experience and training. AWARDS
