The true strength of any community is largely due to the families that live within it. A city can have great managers and great city council members, but without great families their efforts will be in vain. Murrieta has great families!

My family noticed this when we moved here in the early 1970s. My father had completed his service in the military and began his hard working career in heavy construction. He traveled to jobs all over the state and was gone for long periods at a time. Similar to today, construction had its ups and downs, which meant there were times my family didn’t have much in the way of material possessions. However, we soon learned that the community of Murrieta was a family, in and of itself. We found ourselves living in a community where helping families in need was second nature.

My wife and I were both raised in Murrieta. We both feel that strong family values directly and indirectly contribute to a healthy community. When we married we both started giving back to the community that gave so much to us. We volunteered as Sunday School Teachers, Youth Group Leaders, Coaches, and Crisis Councilors for at risk youth.

Today, my wife (Elementary School Teacher) and I (Fire Captain) are raising a fourth generation of Longs in Murrieta. We are raising our children to understand that success is measured in many different ways. The Longs measure success by how much you give back! Our family ranges from first grade to Great Grand Parents. Murrieta is our home, always has been and always will be!
